The Miami Marlins have traded SS Jose Reyes, SP Josj Johnson, SP Mark Burehle, CF Emilio Bonifacio, and C John Buck to the Blue Jays for Yunel Escobar and five or six top prospects.
5:58pm: The Marlins will get Marisnick or Anthony Gose, as well as a catcher in J.P. Arencibia, Bobby Wilson or Jeff Mathis, Morosi tweets. The trade will leave the Marlins with a payroll of roughly $16MM in non-arbitration commitments headed into 2013, tweets Morosi. That’s a drastic drop from their Opening Day payroll of about $100MM.
5:31pm: One source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link) that Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, John Buck, and Emilio Bonifacio are all going to Toronto. Right-hander Henderson Alvarez and left-hander Justin Nicolino will be among those going to Miami, Rosenthal tweets.
5:15pm: The Blue Jays are on the verge of acquiring Josh Johnson from the Marlins, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Toronto will also land Mark Buehrle in the trade, sources tell Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link) and Morosi. The Marlins will receive Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria in return, Rosenthal tweets.
One source tells Morosi that Jose Reyes may also be headed to Toronto in the trade (Twitter link). That part of the deal is not yet confirmed but there will be more pieces outside of Johnson, Buehrle, Escobar, and Hechavarria in the swap, Rosenthal tweets.
